Reserve gaps at regular intervals along the length of the building to disconnect all above ground components such as roofs, walls, and floors. The foundation of the building does not need to be disconnected as it is buried underground and is less affected by temperature changes. The width of expansion joints is generally 2 centimeters to 3 centimeters, and the joints are filled with insulation materials. The spacing between the two expansion joints is clearly specified in the building structural specifications.
